Best Shot Doubles - Pool Separation Guidelines
“
The Bubble Boy System” 1/12/04
The following Pool Separation Guidelines are for determining which
pool players will be grouped for the blind draw of Best Shot Doubles
(BSD) teams.
The pools
of players will be determined by handicaps on the course the
BSD is being played.
No. Water Tower Park (NWTP) handicaps will be used for rounds played
at NWTP.
Lakeview Park handicaps will be used for rounds played at Lakeview.
The top ½ of the field, (players with the lowest handicaps)
will be in the “Top Cats” pool.
All others will be in the “Under Dogs” pool.
If a player
has no established handicap, their tournament division will determine
the pool.
All Pro division players will play in the Top Cats.
All Amateur division players (Advanced, Intermediate, Recreational, & Junior)
and any players who have not played in a tournament will be considered
Under Dogs.
In the event
there are an odd number of players, the player whose handicap
is exactly
in the middle of the field OR in certain cases is the extra player,
will be the called“
The Bubble Boy”.
The Bubble Boy is the odd number player and depending on the format
being used, may have a choice of how to be grouped.
The right
to choose only applies when the Mixed Pools format is being used.
(1 - Top Cat & 1 - Under Dog per team)
In this situation the Bubble Boy is the player whose handicap is
the middle of the field,
and can either; play as a single player team getting 2 extra throws
per hole,
with no more than 2 throws from any one lie. (including the tee
pad) OR CHOOSE
to be mixed in as an extra player with the Under Dogs to make a
3-person team of
1 – Top Cat & 2 – Under Dogs.
When the format
is Separated Pools, (Top Cats teamed with Top Cats & Under
Dogs with Under Dogs) the player whose handicap is the middle
of the field plays with
the Top Cats.
In this situation the Bubble Boy becomes the player who draws the
extra number or card,
and plays as a single player team getting only 1 extra shot per
hole.
When the format
is Random Draw, a single player team will again be used.
In this situation the Bubble Boy is not the player in the middle
of the field.
The Bubble Boy is the player who draws the extra number or card.
In this situation if the Bubble Boy would fall into the Top Cat
Pool (the top ½ of the field)
that player will get only 1 extra shot per hole.
If the Bubble Boy would fall into the Under Dog Pool (the bottom ½ of
the field)
that player will get 3 extra throws per hole, with no more than
2 throws from any one lie. (including the tee pad)
If the extra players’ handicap is the EXACT middle of the
field, the player is considered an Underdog, and will get 3 extra
throws per hole, with no more than 2 throws from any one lie.
(including the tee pad)
